GRRRL Music: Rebuilding a Fragmented Website Into One Scalable Wix Studio Platform

CASE STUDY | WIX STUDIO | MUSIC | CMS | WEBSITE REBUILD

GRRRL Music already had a strong visual identity, an active community and a lot of content. The problem was not the brand. The problem was that the website infrastructure had become fragmented enough to slow the business down.

GRRRL Music: Rebuilding a Fragmented Website Into One Scalable Wix Studio Platform

The Challenge

When Ashley Alderson first showed me the project, GRRRL Music was split between Wix and ReadyMag. The main domains were pointing to ReadyMag, much of the content still lived in Wix, some navigation and search paths pushed visitors off-site, Street GRRRL was not functioning properly, and the existing Wix build had accumulated a large number of manual pages.

This was creating a management problem for the team and delaying the relaunch of Street GRRRL. The issue was no longer simply visual. The architecture itself needed to be rebuilt.

The Goal: One Website, One System

The strategy was to bring the brand back into one clean Wix Studio environment while preserving the playful, expressive GRRRL identity. Visitors needed to understand the core parts of the business quickly, including distribution, content, discovery and the Street GRRRL community.

The team also wanted to be able to manage the website confidently after launch, so training and a more logical backend structure were part of the project from the start.

Replacing Page Overload With CMS Architecture

A major part of the rebuild was moving repeatable content away from one-off static pages and into systems that scale. I designed CMS architecture for areas such as the Distro Roster and Street GRRRL profiles, along with dynamic templates that could keep the visual design consistent while allowing the team to add new entries without rebuilding pages manually.

This is one of the biggest differences between a website that looks organized and a website that is actually organized. The front end may appear simple, but the real value is often in what happens behind it.

A Better Home for Street GRRRL

Street GRRRL needed to feel like its own creative world without becoming a completely separate technical website. The solution was to keep it inside the main GRRRL Music ecosystem, with its own visual identity and structured content experience.

As the project developed, the team refined what information each photographer profile needed, including bio, Instagram, website and galleries. They also asked me to create a better template for photo-gallery blog posts, turning the content system into something the team could actually enjoy using.

Blog, E-Commerce and Media Under One Roof

The live GRRRL Music Wix Studio site now combines multiple content and business functions in one place, including Wix Blog, Wix Stores, Wix Video, Instagram integration, Forms and Members Area.

Instead of sending visitors across disconnected platforms, the objective was to give GRRRL Music one central home where editorial content, artists, products, media and community-facing experiences could support each other.

Domain Cleanup and Removing the ReadyMag Dependency

One of the most urgent goals was to remove the ReadyMag dependency and correct the domain routing. The rebuild was planned around a stabilization-first approach so the business could move toward one controlled Wix Studio environment rather than continuing to maintain multiple partial systems.

SEO and AI Optimization

Ashley specifically chose to add SEO and AI optimization to the rebuild. The work included titles and meta descriptions, URL structure, indexing readiness, alt text, heading hierarchy, internal linking, FAQ strategy and clearer wording around what GRRRL Music offers.

The objective was clarity, not keyword stuffing. A brand with several interconnected offerings needs search engines and AI systems to understand the relationships between those offerings just as much as human visitors do.

Training as Part of the Design

One sentence from Ashley during the proposal process captured an important part of the project: the team loved the idea of training because they wanted to move forward with more confidence.

That is exactly how I think about CMS-driven Wix Studio projects. The goal is not to make clients dependent on me for every content update. The system should be professionally built, but understandable enough that the team can use it.

The Result

GRRRL Music now has a published Wix Studio site under its main domain with a much more scalable technical foundation than the fragmented setup we started with. The team continues to use the platform and still reaches out when they need help with items such as CMS behavior or third-party integrations like Google AdSense.

That ongoing relationship is part of the result. A complex website is rarely frozen forever. The real measure of a good rebuild is whether the new structure makes future growth easier rather than harder.

The Takeaway

If a website has been patched across too many platforms, pages and workarounds, another cosmetic redesign will not solve the underlying problem. Sometimes the most valuable design decision is architectural: simplify the system first, then make it beautiful.

GRRRL Music is a strong example of how Wix Studio, CMS, Blog and e-commerce tools can be organized into one branded platform that is easier for both visitors and the internal team to understand.
